With the deaths of roving chef Anthony Bourdain and designer Kate Spade in early June 2018, America is having a discussion (for one news cycle) about suicide. Health issues, responsibilities, obligations, failures in relationships, professional life, business, etc. – overall dissatisfaction with the path of life, and the realization of that the best days are behind you makes for one helluva stage in life. The BBC used to go around and interview old people and those close to dying to ask them of their greatest regrets. The results were unsurprising. People regretted the little things they ignored to do – the little things that make life beautiful. Midlife requires a certain degree of courage and selfishness. It is the time to live life for you and the one you love (if you are so lucky), time to remove yourself from keeping up appearances for society, time to live according to you, not your neighbor.
