The United States has now crossed another unfortunate coronavirus threshold. Wednesday saw 3,011 deaths. That is 968 more than the Pearl Harbor attacks and 34 more than the 9/11 attacks. It also blew away the spring record of 2,752, reached on April 15, that precipitated widespread restrictions and varying degrees of lockdown.
We have now exceeded 290,000 cumulative deaths and will likely blow past 300,000 deaths by end of week. It is likely that when this is brought under control by mid-year, we will have surpassed the 405,000 casualties of World War II.
The good news on the horizon though, is the impending start of the mass vaccination effort across the globe. Britain started its program this week. Canda approved its vaccine and is moving forward. And it is believed that with the expected approval by the FDA today, we might see mobilization and the start of the vaccination as soon as next week.
